21 September 2009 - Recovery

Kevin and Sandra ThomasThere is a verse of scripture in Psalms 34 verse 8 which says 'Find out for yourself how good the Lord is. Happy are those who find safety with him. (Good News Version).

As a family we have always known that God is good but even as mature believers, over the last 10 days, our eyes have been opened to see and experience another dimension of his goodness we have never known before.

His goodness has been expressed in the great skill and care of the medical staff aiding Sandra's recovery, the outpouring of love and support we have received from family, friends, colleagues and even people we don't know. Most of all we have experienced his goodness in the day by day progress we are seeing made evident in Sandra's gradual recovery. We are most grateful.

Sandra had another good, settled night and throughout various periods today had brief moments where she could briefly interact by squeezing a hand, nodding and even managed a smile but then would go back to sleep. (Sounds just a like a typical night in!)

The Doctors have been very pleased with her progress and although still under intensive care, she is a considerable way from where she was on the previous Saturday.

Presently Sandra is still on the ventilator although she is initiating the breathing and the next milestone is to get her breathing independently.

Please continue to give thanks for her recovery and progress so far and that she will be able to transition without event or complication to totally independent breathing.

Thanks once again for your love and support.

Kevin and family.

20 September 2009 - Awakenings

Today Sandra is beginning to become much more aware of her immediate environment, although these are in very short bouts as the stimulus of activity tires her out very quickly.

During one of her periods of consciousness, she made several attempts to utter something to me but due to the tracheotomy, clear audible responses are impeded. I sense this frustrates her a little.

So we resorted to short bouts of communication where she would affirm by nodding her head or squeezing my hand.

In saying that, when one of her chaplains prayed with her today, at the end of the prayer she mouthed a very clear and unequivocal 'Amen'.

She is clearly also able to understand and execute basic instructions as demonstrated today when the nurse asked her to do a minor series of basic activities like raising her leg or squeezing my hand with her responding appropriately then becoming a little disoriented.

Today also for the first time they have been able to reduce her levels of sedation to almost zero with her only needing the occasional short term dose when she became unsettled.

I also told her of the many people across the country and in fact all over the world who have been and are praying for her, along with some of the messages we have received and asked her if she agreed with the declaration that 'Her latter will be greater than her former years' and she gave a very affirmative nod of agreement.

Thanks again to everyone for your declarations of affirmation, your prayers for Sandra and for your kind messages - lets all close the weekend by thanking God for all that has been done and continue in great expectations of the Glory that will be revealed in Sandra's full recovery and miraculous testimony.

God bless you all,

Kevin & family

19 September 2009 - Our God is good!

Rejoicing in the midst of a miracle!

On seeing Sandra this evening after attending my niece's wedding, my heart was filled with gladness to see her looking so much like the Sandra I know. I hugged her and told her 'I love you' and she responded faintly 'I love you too'. She is looking so peaceful - we know the Father's presence is keeping her.

Please remember the prayer declarations for Sandra as you fellowship tomorrow - in particular that Sandra will 'recover all'.

God bless you all and again thank you for your overwhelming support.
