Psalm 107 verse 1 says 'Oh give thanks to the Lord for he is good and his lovingkindness is everlasting'. Over the last few weeks not only has this been a constant theme for us as a family, but has now become our hearts constant disposition. Instead of giving thanks for each instance of answered prayer we find ourselves in a constant state of thankfulness for all God has done on our behalf, including Sandra's improvement, the care from the medical staff and the immense support we have received from family, friends, colleagues, Church family and even people we don't know. We thank you all.
This weekend has seen us pass another milestone on Sandra's road to recovery and restoration. With her not only awakening but also increasing in her awareness and response.Still only able to communicate through a series of gestures and being able to mouth the odd distinguishable word, she tires out very quickly and needs an extended period of rest to recover.
We serve the living and true God!
When I arrived at the hospital this morning, Sandra was perched up in bed with both eyes fully open and positively able to respond and show amazement at what has happening over the last two weeks.
Still only able to respond with nods of agreement, furrowed eyebrows, looks of bemusement and able to mouth a few distinguishable words as a family we are totally elated. If the last few days were about waiting patiently today is definitely about rejoicing.
We rejoice not only for the positive developments we have seen today in Sandra, but also thank God for the fact that she is now only 30% dependent on the ventilator and progressing.
Its great to also report that Hyacinth George (Carol Foster's mother) is now also out of intensive care and well on the way to recovery, thanks for praying for her too.
We praise God with a victory shout this weekend!
In Psalms 27 verse 14, King David writes "Wait on the Lord, Be strong and let your heart take courage; Yes wait on the Lord."
I guess that even when you are in the midst of a miracle there are periods of rapid development as well as periods where you just have to wait patiently.
The last couple of days have felt like one of those waiting periods.
Due to the sedation administered over the last couple of days, Sandra spent most of the day at rest again today, with her just rousing a couple of times during the day in response to some medical observations, all still very positive.
In the meantime I just continue to pray quietly with her, read the scriptures, speak the words of life and declaration over her and sing quietly with her (the nurses find this particularly helpful in emptying the ward at the end of visiting time - Glad to be of service).
We were also saddened to hear that Shekinah Hussain passed away late yesterday evening. As we continue to pray for Sandra, please pray that God would comfort the Hussain family in this the time of their grief.
In the meantime we continue to wait patiently.
