Today has been another day of stability, with Sandra spending much of the day still resting apart from a couple of instances where she stirred to smile, acknowledge and hold the hand of a visiting work colleague.
In a other instance she managed to clearly wave goodbye to Andrea and a family friend as they left her at the end of this mornings visit. There has been a little regression in her level of interactivity today, but this is probably due to fatigue more than anything else, which is not unusual for the level of trauma she recently underwent.
As we fast and pray tomorrow, the focus for us will be first of all to give thanks for all the progress and development we have seen in Sandra and all that has happened to make this possible.
Secondly we recognise that through the cross, we have inherited a legacy of life and healing. As we give thanks we will also be praying for Sandra's total release and recovery from every infirmity of the mind and body so that she will truly 'recover all'.
After weeks of prayer and close medical attention, I am glad to report that this morning Sandra is now free from the Ventilator and is breathing totally independently, with just supplementary oxygen being supplied via the tracheotomy.
At her continued rate of progress we have been told that she could potentially be off the intensive ward within the next couple of days.
Using the Doctor's own words 'I am totally amazed at Sandra's progress considering the state she was in a couple of weeks ago.'
After a very agitated day yesterday, Sandra spent the remainder of time wanting to rest and sleep, so you can imagine the jubilation when we found her in a much more interactive and playful mood today.
Much of her facial swelling has now reduced and she is beginning to physically look much more like Sandra of old
We are also beginning to see more aspects of her personality shining through including her sense of humour, this morning our daughter Andrea told her that I had agreed to take the family on an all inclusive holiday to Jamaica when she gets better! In response she positively produced one of those beaming Sandra Thomas smiles, as if to say my bags are already packed. (So I guess I'll have to make good on that one!)
The highlight for us however, happened while we played one of her favourite tracks for her on the ipod 'Shout to the Lord'. As she listened, she clearly lifted her left hand from her side on the bed, and held her hand lifted towards the heavens as an act of worship. The expression on her face clearly demonstrated that she had connected with the song in a way which we had not experienced before now - Amazing!
Her dependency on the ventilator continues to diminish with her hopefully being off it altogether by next week at the current rate of progress.
We continue to be thankful while we pray and praise for progress.
